Glad to see Dallas so low. :)
Can we separate Fort Worth from its larger counterpart and give it a higher spot on the list? That's a fun town.

Hmm, sounds like someone had a bad experience.
Well, not like a "last hotel you stayed in before heading to Dallas in a convertible" bad. But bad.

Ranked how?? I go to Abilene regularly, and apart from a pretty good orchestra and Dyess AFB, it doesn't have a whole lot going for it.

Dyess is da bomb

Waco isn't on there. Thank you. As much as I like Baylor, I don't really care for living in Waco.

Hi, my name is Matt Hardigree. I've lived in many of these places including most of a childhood in The Woodlands and I have to ask this: HAVE YOU EVER EVEN BEEN TO TEXAS? Katy? Fucking Katy? The Woodlands? Look, these are very nice suburbs with many nice people and, generally, good schools but... WHO THE FUCK THINKS THESE ARE THE BEST?
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:03 |

that is one purdy '56 Buick
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:07 |

Hi Matt. You're wrong. Katy's the bomb. They have big stars on the side of their freeway overpasses.
You should be more aware of how living in NYC has corrupted your judgement.

I moved to Dallas from Austin about 5 years ago. Before moving, I absolutely loathed this city and its people. If you can escape Neiman Marcus, Uptown, and the Park Cities, I think you'll find it's a much nicer place. I need to visit Fort Worth more often. Really like the people and lifestyle there. Reminds me a little bit of how Austin used to be... I really miss vintage Austin.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 13:44 |

katy is boring and safe. as is the woodlands. too damn far away from things.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 14:00 |

Dallas seemed to "big city" to me in a very impersonal, uninteresting way (like the Cowboys) whereas Fort Worth felt small, the downtown personal and fun. I haven't been to Austin, but I've heard good things.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 14:13 |

El Paso
Why is El Paso here? People from every city above it say El Paso is not part of Texas. How does El Paso rank if it is part of New Mexico. j/k
To add, I grew up in El Paso in the 80s.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 15:04 |

College Station is a toilet and shouldn't even be on the list. The rest of us have been trying to donate that hellhole to Oklahoma for years.

Texas World Speedway. Your argument is invalid.
![]() 10/10/2014 at 15:35 |

Seems like in order to make this list, a location would need to be somewhere you would acually go out of your way to visit. Unless you live there, Katy and The Woodlands are just places you have to pass through to get to San Antonio or Dallas. Also, no Corpus Christi ?
![]() 10/10/2014 at 15:51 |

At first I was like, "Abilene? Well I guess some would consider it nice." Then I saw College Station and was like "This is all BS, who cares."
(°° Odessa/Midland should be #1.

Shout out for Beaumont, the future Austin, we have great music, great art and living is cheap just ignore the huge chem plants, let atustin go mainstream (lets face it city limits and now sxsw are commercial) and let beaumont go wierd

I live downtown in FW (well, right next to it, but I'm a few blocks from The Flying Saucer and Bass Hall so that's good enough). I've always loathed living in cities, so when I first moved to TX I was living up in Justin and commuting down. When I finally had an opportunity to move I decided to go walk around downtown because it's near work and I liked some of the apartments, and it's generally pretty quiet and relaxed, easy to walk, a good assortment of places to stop in on, and this was before Sundance Square fully opened, it's even better now.

Houston Metro includes Humble, Katy, Kingwood, Pearland, Sugarland, & The Woodlands
6, 7, & 8 are one in the same. I live in Houston and my brother lives in Katy. If you're raising kids then Katy is where it's at for schools.

some of of these cities have neither Taco Cabana nor Mr. Gatti's. Therefore your list is invalid. Unless you add Lockhart whicjh gets an indulgence.
![]() 10/12/2014 at 23:21 |

Don't forget Conroe, Pasadena, Baytown, Kemah, Bellaire, Dickenson, Clear Lake, Fort Bend, Cypress, Willowbrook, Friendswood, South Houston, Rosenburg, League City, Texas City (and the Texas City Dike, a great fishing spot, not a person) and, some would even say, Galveston. And that not even counting the coastal communities further down south who watch Houston TV like Freeport and Matagorda. It's the worst example of sprawl in America and it's not even close.

I know this is from Friday, but my folks live out in Katy and this made me laugh so hard. Spot on.

I know a buuuunch of people in Katy as well lol. Basically city living but not in the city :]
I live for the most part right in the middle of Airline and Gulf Bank. Pretty much Northern Mexico lol. I live in Humble as of a month ago and even that feels like the country lol :]
I'm an urban person. I don't really like nature.

They should all be lower. The list should start with #12. There is a good restaurant in Albany. That's not too far from Abilene.
![]() 10/13/2014 at 13:52 |

Reading my brain. Who the hell ranked these and what criteria is it based on?
Local taxes? Employment opportunities? Cost of housing? Quality of the streets?
If we're ranking 'municipalities' in Texas I would be willing to disregard any part of the large metro areas.

Dallas is on the list.
![]() 10/13/2014 at 21:25 |

Fort Worth is not Dallas.
Dallas isn't quite the worthless yuppie hellhole it was after the demise of Deep Ellum but it's still pretty bad.
Fort Worth has two museums superior to anything (and frankly, I'd take the Amon Carter over the DMA), plenty of good restaurants, a number of places to see shows that are better than the Dallas clubs. Also cheaper, easier to get around and still has areas with potential to be made even better. Dallas can't even get gentrification right - most of Bishop Arts/Oak Cliff is terrible but rent has already gotten ridiculous. You're just past the stage of appealing to artists and gays, OC, chill the fuck out with the inflation.

The number of folks over the years who have suggested to me that my dad should have moved to "cooler" Army bases has always amused me.
"Dear Uncle Sugar, I will be moving from Fort Polk to Fort Shafter because my family wants to live in Hawaii. Thank you."
![]() 10/14/2014 at 10:38 |

Kat, you claim to be from Texas? Then you would Know that it is the state capital... no politics, hardly! Have you ever heard of someone trying to get a building permit? Austin is a Cali and Yankee infested hellhole, with a bunch of mindless scene followers that have spend their lives chasing the next big thing... It is not Texas, and I've never seen a real cowboy "from" there, just a bunch of hipsters that shop at Allen's boots, thinking they are the real deal.

1. Scarface
2. Proximity to New Orleans (1 hour flight)
3. Johnson Space Center
4. Saint Arnold Brewery
End of List

I'm only interested in enlisting in the Army if I can be stationed on Ft Shafter or maybe I will head next door to see if the Navy will stationed me on NBCoronado.

Gets off plane to find that everyone laughs at you believing your recruiter and you spend the next 3 years at Fort Wainwright

I went to a private (Southern Baptist) high school in Houston (which sucked. The school. And Houston.) One student lived in The Woodlands and would arrive at school in a stretch Caddy limo.
I always felt sorry for her, as clearly her parents were too poor to buy her her own car, not even an '81 Chevette like I was driving.

Your congratulations are noted. Thanks!
Sure beats where I went to high school. North Dallas suburbs. It could do with more liberal Cali and Yankee infestations.
